George Weston Foods Ham Slicing Line Installation
Project Background
George Weston Foods is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest food manufacturers with
DON Foodservice as a prominent supplier of authentic smallgoods to the Australian hospitality industry. The Don KR Castlemaine facility is state-of-the-art and is the largest single-site employer in Victoria. Pro Services is DON’s primary contractor for mechanical installations across all sites.
Services
Pro Services provided a comprehensive range of services to install a new Ham Slicing Line. This included maintenance fitters, fabricators and an installation crew. The services included custom designs and fabrication, competitively priced against European mechanical services.
Challenges
Delays due to equipment being held in port had set installation back by approximately two weeks. To reduce the impact of this delay, Pro Services fast tracked the 4-day installation originally scheduled and completed the work in approximately 2 days. This required weekend work and additional shifts to ensure readiness for commissioning on the following Monday.
Access to the factory posed a challenge as it remained operational throughout the installation process. Pro Services used problem solving and critical thinking to minimise shutdown time and coordinate effectively with DON’s operations.
Project Outcome
Despite the scheduling and timeframe challenges, the Ham Slicing Line was successfully installed ready for commissioning as specified. The factory stayed operational with no impact on other lines and no production downtime.
Timeframe
The initial timeframe for the project was reduced by one full day, requiring the introduction of a second shift to meet the revisited timeline. Pro Services coordinated a 24-hour shift to ensure the production deadlines were met.
